Use of Web 2.0 technology in library services

Web 2.0 is the new emerging Internet technology, including blogs, social bookmarking, podcasts, and photo sharing communities.

Through these technologies, library users can share ideas and facts, visions and art and of course opinions. Web 2.0 is part of library services that encourages purposeful change and creates better use and also to reach new library users. 

It provides a multi media experience, both the collection and services contain video and audio and photo images.

The technologies allows communities to find new ways to utilize information, a willingness to share information and content as well as individuals who want to seek and find. Content is freely available to use and reuse.

Blogs are used to announce library news and events, book reviews, current awareness -whats new in the library, professional development and links to other libraries, catalogues and information databases. Ulitmo TAFE Library Blog is a good example.

Image Sharing is growing in popularity as it allows users to share online photographs and comments can be left at the image point. Video sharing which allows embedding in PowerPoint, websites or links. Another popular aspect as videos are available on every subject.

If a library can get involved with Web 2.0 without excessive costs in time and resources, it is defineatly worthwhile, especially as these technologies are growing and expanding in a purposeful changing way, otherwise libraries can be left behind which will impact on their relevance and library clients will be lost.

....following from exercise 13, arrangement is sorted. I have found the layout and dropped and dragged gadgets. Created labels and moved them round. Using the  widths and boxes length, sliding to appropriate widths. Customizing, using colours on texts and links and headings.

I have tried a few colour variations on the design template, from bamboo green to different image backgrounds. Its fun to explore the options and try a few combinations. I'm getting to be quite the blog expert ... I've already deleted this blog when I had practically completed all the exercises.  I hit the wrong exit button and it was tooo late, it was gone. So here  again, and many practices later, I've also got a blog for Promotion Literature with 20 book annotations.
So colour design, is great.

Community Profile-  City of Sydney Area - Elizabeth Bay.

 Elizabeth Bay is an established residential area. Elizabeth Bay is bounded by the suburb of Potts Point in the north, the shoreline of Port Jackson and Elizabeth Bay Road in the east, Roslyn Gardens and Roslyn Street in the south and Ward Avenue and Macleay Street in the west. Elizabeth Bay is named after the original estate in the area.

Settlement of the area dates from 1826 when the first land grant was made. In the 1830s Elizabeth Bay House, a Grecian villa, was built, and remains as a historic house today. Land was subdivided in the early 1900s, with many apartments and houses constructed. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, then increased between 2001 and 2006.
