Settlement of the area dates from 1826 when the first land grant was made. In the 1830s Elizabeth Bay House, a Grecian villa, was built, and remains as a historic house today. Land was subdivided in the early 1900s, with many apartments and houses constructed. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, then increased between 2001 and 2006.

  1. Hi there tuesdaynightblog, I liked your comments on Elizabeth Bay House. Good to inject a bit of history into your blog. I once went for a tour of the house and garden there. Just fabulous views up the harbour to Vaucluse. The main staircase in Elizabeth Bay House is one of the best examples of Georgian period staircase made of red cedar in Australia. By the way is Surry Hills Library the closest to Elizabeth Bay, or did you post the image just because you like the contemporary design. yours sincerely, fluffyrabbit.
