Born or bred?: Martin Bryant: the making of a mass murderer / Robert Wainwright & Paola Totaro
Martin Bryant murdered 35 people and injured 37 during the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania in 1996, a crime for which he is serving 35 life sentences in Hobart. The authors have gained access to tapes made following the murders and explored the Bryant's family history dating back 150 years. It is easy to brows through the reviews, and evaluate for yourself or gain some interest and knowledge about a book. I wouldn't read Born or Bred? but it is interesting to read what it is about and the research involved. One reviewer went into great detail and effort to explain the books intent.
'There were also aspects of the book that I found less than satisfactory, but it certainly never felt like the reader was being pulled into voyeuristic territory. But, if we're to understand why it is that somebody can turn to the incomprehensible, then, as hard and as uncomfortable and as confronting as books like this are, as lacking in a definitive concrete answer, the book was informative, if only for the reason that it spelt out how inexplicable human actions can be.' — review by user austcrimefiction.
The other review was a short summary of his opinion on Martin Byrant.
Hi again tuesdaynightblog, I read your comments on the book "Born or Bred?" on the life of Martin Bryant. I must agree it's not the sort of material I would want to read. These days I'm so busy there isn't much time to read a book so when you do it has to be a good book. I like escapism like fantasy or science fiction. I'm just happy that Bryant is locked up for what he did. fluffyrabbit.
